Get Happy!

chair

What makes you smile? Laugh? Go giddy with glee? For some, it’s a walk barefoot through the grass. For another, it’s a spin on a roller coaster, a solo movie date, or a perfectly ripe mango.

So… when was the last time you did something that makes you happy?

If it’s been awhile, consider this: Happiness lowers stress levels, increases immune system function, and lowers your risk of disease. It also makes life easier.

The Magic Formula for Daily Pleasure

Doing one pleasurable thing per day (or more!) is the most powerful antidote for gray, boring, or stressful days. Try this:

·        Make an “I love” list. List everything that you enjoy—nothing is too small or too large. If you enjoy it, get it on the list.

·        Take a look at how you spend your days. When could you fit in a little pleasure? Perhaps you could leave the office at lunch to walk in the park? Maybe you could play your favorite music while doing the dishes? Book yourself a massage this weekend?

·        Repeat daily—or more often, as needed.

To get you started down the road of pleasure, give this luscious recipe a try:

Mango (N)ice Cream

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Serves (that's up to you:-)

3 cups frozen mango

1 cup coconut cream (or the fat that seperates off the whole coconut milk when refrigerated)

2 tablespoons (or a few healthy glugs) honey

Blend it up until the consistency of soft serve ice cream.

drizzle with warm raspberry puree.

Eat it like you mean it!

Go ahead and lick the bowl. yea, I saw that...

You Get Exactly What You Want

Picture a big glass filled to the halfway mark with water. How do you see it—half-full or half-empty? You've heard that before, right?
My question is this: What do you expect you'll see?

Because, that is what you will see. You get from life and people exactly what you expect to get. That's your order.

Consistently finding the glass half-empty—and the world as a difficult place— is a hallmark of negativity.

A negative outlook can contribute to everything from depression to heart disease to lowered immune system function. It can affect sleep, weight maintenance, the quality of your relationships, your social life, and even your ability to hold a job.

Now imagine what it would feel like to approach life from a place of positivity, fun, connection, health, and possibility. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

6 Simple Tips to Make a Positive Switch

To help wipe out negativity, try one or more of the following action steps:

· Go complaint-free. Try going an hour without complaining and see the positive things in your life. Next, try a day, a week, and so on.

· Keep a gratitude journal. Each evening, list 10 or more things that you are grateful for.

· Give compliments freely. Notice the good in others. Praise every person you interact with.

· Find beauty everywhere in your world. Notice its gorgeousness.

· Share your good news. Studies show that sharing happy events brings even more happiness.

· Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.

Maintaining a positive outlook takes practice, and the more you do it, the easier it gets. The payoff—a happier, healthier life—is absolutely worth the effort.

What should you do if you find yourself surrounded by negative people? Give them a big glass of water!

The Power of Forgiving

Have you ever downed an entire package of chips, crackers, or cookies? Ate pizza or cake until you felt sick? Drank more coffee or wine than your body wanted?

Do you remember how you were feeling at the time?

I ask because sometimes we overeat to help distract us from emotional pain. Think about it—have you noticed that sometimes when you overeat you’re not hungry at all? What you are is lonely. Or angry. Or sad. Or resentful. Or frustrated. Or something else.

So what hurt are YOU holding on to?

Tap Into the Power of Forgiveness

Wouldn’t it be more effective to address your uncomfortable feelings? The best, most thorough, most divinely perfect way to do that is forgiveness.

Forgiving is not easy, even for the most enlightened among us. If you’ve been allowing your present health to be controlled by past hurts, I urge you to commit to forgiving. These steps can help:

· Talk to sympathetic friends and family about your desire to forgive. Chatting with others is tremendously comforting.

· Write a letter to the person you’d like to forgive. You can decide whether or not you send it.

· See the situation from the other person’s perspective—your own perspective may change.

· Don’t forget to forgive yourself. Sometimes we can be harshest with ourselves.

· Understand that you are responsible for your own attitude. Don’t let holding a grudge keep you from feeling free, open, and powerful in your own life.

Forgive and watch how much easier your relationship with eating becomes.
